Hi there!
My name is Mattie and I am the hands and creator behind Speckle Ware! I am a 26 year old graduate from Kalamazoo College, living in my hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico. I stared to create Speckle Ware the summer after graduation in a single corner of a family member’s garage, and have now made my own garage into a full-size studio.

My love for art has always run deep, and I have tried just about every medium out there. But everything changed my sophomore year of college when I took my first ceramics course, “World Pottery.” I was hooked! In the Spring of 2020, I graduated from Kalamazoo College with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Studio Art - Ceramics, Art History, and Business. I was fortunate enough to launch Speckle Ware in the fall of 2020, and since have enjoyed creating collection, connecting with the ceramic community both in person and online, and being apart of ABQ’s Small Businesses.
From My Hands to Your Home
Every piece is created using a tanned speckled stoneware or cream speckled stoneware that is then fired with a food safe glossy glaze. Speckle Ware is dishwasher safe and microwaveable (as long as there is no luster). However, hand-wash is recommended. Because Speckle Ware is hand made, there is variance expected from piece to piece, but I do my best to aim for identical work.
